About the comic

Chocolate Malta most likely came about while bored one day in spring of 2002. Impressed by the awesomeness of pre-existing comics, Cory buggered Lindsay into the concept of starting their own, since she drew a crapload anyway and it only made sense, seeing that she wanted to do this whole sequential shpeel for a living one day.

However! Numerous evil and trecherous obstacles tried to hamper their quest for webcomic glory, including a senior high-school year full of craptastically hard AP classes, the fact Cory always leaves every freakin' summer because he's a crazy monkey, the start of colleges lightyears away from each other (and drastically different), and just plain life in general. Thus, it's not uncommon for updates to be somewhat consistant one moment and then very spastic and spread out the next.

But I bet if you sent them cookies they'd be able to update more. Really. Or money. Nah, cookies would work better. Send those. Or just open your window and yell at them to update. They'll hear ya.

Layout-wise, the site was seriously lacking for a long, long time. The complete site overhaul was launched on August 27th, 2004. Finally!

About the dorks who make this comic
Totally trying out for Miss America

This is Lindsay. If the site is messed up or otherwise broken (and the Keenspace servers are all working), you can pretty much blame her for not being careful enough when messing with the HTML for the site. She's also the artist for Chocolate Malta and hungry at the moment of typing this, so send her some ravioli, if you got the time. Currently attending the Savannah College of Art and Design, Lindsay is plotting world domination by majoring in Sequential Art. (Sequential Art = Fancy phrase for comics) When she's not going to classes or working her arse off to afford going to said classes, Lindsay spends her time reading comics (as well as the occasional "real" book), playing video games, dorking around with friends, and pretending she's a ninja. (She isn't. Don't tell her.) Sometimes she tries to wear contacts and remembers how to get them out as well. Oh yeah, and her hair's pretty much never curly like that. Ever.

Monkey!

And here is Cory tall, dark (when the lights are not on) and thinks himself a sexy stud. He is el resident writer. He isn't too well versed in the ways of HTML, so don't come running to him when you need something about computers. Also, his drawing are terrible (with a french accent added for affect) because he never practices enough. One day though...one day...Cory is the writer and co-brainer of this little shin-dig, so if the jokes aren't funny enough he says to go stick your head in a pickle jar. He attends the University of Louisville (Go CARDS) and is currently majoring in biology and french (ya ya, he could be a french doctor *scoff*). As his brain doesn't know where the heck it wants to go, this could change. Free time sees him playing video games, reading fantasy books and the occasional script for the site. He also owns the Uber awesome filler Ninjas.

OMG! FAQ! STFU!

Here's how we'd answer various questions if anyone actually cared enough to ask them. (We've gotten.....two maybe?...)

Q) Why the crappity crap are you so slow with updates?!

A) Hrm, this one's kinda answered in the top, but I suppose if one were to list the major things that get in the way....

  • School. Hey,we pay a crapload to go get a college edumacation, so keeping with the good grades is majorly important and junk. And if grades go down, parents = miffed. Take careful note: Art students do not have it easy. If anyone ever told you that going to an art college meant that you'd have easy homework, they're a filthy liar. Go yell at them.
  • Friends. At college, socializing is apparently really neat. And functional! Yeah. Seriously!
  • Family. Erm...since they're miles away, they're not a day to day thing per se, except for phone calls. But there are holidays! Whoo!
  • Video Games. Stupid things are too much fun.

The order of importance on these can change occausional. Mostly that's the fault of the video games.

Q) What's the schedule usually like then?

A) Most futile attempts at posting comics occur on the imfamous MWF schedule, resulting in 3 updates a week if all goes well. Comics do occausionally go up outside of that schedule, usually because they were very, very close to being on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday but then the stupid clock hit midnight. Drat.

Q) So......what's up with Motama's name?

A) Meh, it's Japanese. Well, kinda. It's a combination of two different Japanese words which used to be Cory's nickname when Lindsay was clever enough to remember the nicknames she gave to people. The full phrase is "momo atama"; "momo" meaning "peach" and "atama" meaning "head"; this nickname was the result of a can of peaches that was passed around at high school at one point and kept winding up in the monkey's locker. Could also refer to really really short hair (peach fuzz), which he also never has. Since momo atama is too much of a mouthful, and since Lindsay was too lazy to think of any other names, they were combined to make Motama. As for his last name, I don't rightly remember. Prolly read it off a beverage can or something, I dunno.

Q) How come the first 10-ish comics look like total @#*%?

A) That'd...uh....yeah. Lindsay didn't really know what the crap she was doing. Realistically proportioned people are tricksy. Most series go through some "bad art" comics until they settle into a style that the cartoonist is comfortable with. Lindsay also suffers from a crippling disease which makes her draw cute-style all the time, which she finally gave in to instead of continuing to use those things call "anatomy" and "proper proportions". As for the crummy backgrounds...blame it on laziness and Paint Shop Pro textures. Maybe one day they'll be re-drawn and not crappy but for now: Lazy!

Q) How do you draw and color your comic?

A) Chocolate Malta is hand drawn on regular old computer printer paper with your average BiC #2 mechanical pencil, sometimes the ones with the comfort grip, sometimes the ones without. Afterwards, it's hand inked with various Micron pens and a Sharpie for the panel borders (none of that silly "inking in Photoshop business. It breaks Lindsay's wrist). The comic is then scanned and colored using Photoshop. The first few were done in Paint Shop Pro, which is similar to Photoshop....but considerabley annoying to use after one has learned how to properly use Photoshop.

Q) Hey! Something's broken!

A) Well, then, tell someone, silly!

Q) I'm offended by something you said/did/drew!!

A) Um...sorry?? You don't have to stay, you know. The internet's a big place. Go exploring.

Q) Your links offend me too!!

A) They're what we read. Visit at your own risk. Oooo, spooky!!!

Q) You totally didn't answer my questions at all.

A) Whaddya want from me? I'm just putting down the questions that I'd ask. If you're still lost about something, then use the e-mails on the main page. But you have to click back to get to them, because I refuse to cater to you anymore on this page! Now shoo!
